Algospeak Zine
Exploring how design visualises coded language, moderation, and creativity under constraint.
Algospeak began as an exploration of how online communities adapt language to navigate moderation systems. The project examines the coded expressions, symbols, and visual metaphors that emerge when digital users find creative ways to talk about restricted topics.
The zine uses typography, iconography, and fragmented layouts to mirror the shifting, evasive nature of algospeak itself. Words are substituted with symbols, patterns interrupt meaning, and visual noise becomes part of the narrative. Through this layered approach, the piece reflects on how communication evolves under constraint, where censorship and creativity overlap.
It became as much a study of design as of language: how form can become a mode of resistance, and how visual systems both reveal and conceal meaning in our networked culture.
